E-commerce Web Development

Online shops built to take payments reliably and hold up when a lot of people arrive at once

Selling online, built properly

Whoooop Ltd builds and looks after online shops. We've spent 15+ years in full-stack development, a good chunk of it on high-traffic e-commerce, so we know where shops tend to lose sales — a checkout that asks for too much, a payment step that fails quietly, a page that crawls when a promotion lands. The aim is a shop that takes the order and gets out of the way.

What an e-commerce build covers

Shopify stores

Themed and customised Shopify builds when you want a proven platform and don't fancy maintaining the plumbing yourself.

Bespoke shops

A custom storefront when your products, pricing or fulfilment don't fit the mould a hosted platform expects.

Payments and checkout

Secure card payments through Stripe, PayPal and the usual gateways, with a checkout pared back to what the customer actually needs to fill in.

Stock and orders

Inventory that stays in step with what you've actually got, and orders that flow through to dispatch without re-keying.

Integrations

Links to accounting, shipping, email and whatever else you run, so the shop talks to the rest of the business instead of sitting apart from it.

Replatforming

Moving off a shop that's outgrown its setup, keeping your products, URLs and search rankings intact through the switch.

Shopify or a bespoke build?

Most shops are well served by Shopify. It handles hosting, security and payment compliance, it copes with traffic, and you can run it day to day without a developer on call. Where it gets awkward is unusual pricing, complex bundles, trade accounts or fulfilment that doesn't match how the platform expects an order to behave. That's the point at which a bespoke build earns its keep — and it's a real decision with trade-offs, not a default, so we'll talk you through which side of the line your shop sits on before any code gets written.

Keeping the checkout standing when it's busy

A sale, a press mention or a seasonal rush can put more load on a shop in an hour than it normally sees in a week. We build with caching, sensible hosting and load testing so the checkout keeps taking orders when it matters most. A shop that falls over on its busiest day costs you the exact sales you were trying to win.

Already trading and need a change?

Plenty of the e-commerce work we do is on shops that already exist — a tired storefront, a checkout shedding customers, or a platform that's become more trouble than it's worth. We can take over a shop someone else built, fix what's holding it back, or move it somewhere better without losing the rankings you've earned. If you're a local business weighing up a wider site as well, our web development in Stoke-on-Trent page covers the general builds we take on.
